Following a 15 year stint in the food & beverage industry, I stumbled into the automotive business at Mazda North American Operations in Southern California. In 2001 I began my career there in the Consumer Compliance Department handling Lemon Law complaints and moved on to a position as District Manager where I was a liaison between the retail side of dealerships and the manufacturer. Fieldwork meant travel, and balancing work while figuring out how to maintain my health & fitness on the road.
After leaving MNAO I transitioned to working at dealerships, like Hilton Head BMW. When we moved to Charlotte in 2010 I recognized the need for expanding health services to others. Since 2011, I have implemented community health and wellness events at Gastonia Nissan. Events like our Mobile Mammography helping women without insurance and Go Red For Women to offer heart health related screening and education, just to name a few.
At 44, my wellness journey took off. My diet was good and certainly my running kept me in decent shape, but I craved a deeper connection with my body and a desire to learn more. I started lifting weights with the guidance of a personal trainer and my running improved. I then decided to turn my attention to a new sport, Tower Running, aka, stair climbing. Turned out I was pretty good at this and I actually began thinking of myself as an 'athlete.'
As my overall fitness and health improved, I felt an urge to share with others what I had learned. I became certified to teach indoor cycling, group exercise, and then became a personal trainer and certified yoga teacher. In addition to my physical health, I also focused on obtaining nutrition certifications with the ACE, the American Council of Exercise, who I obtained my personal training certification with and keep my knowledge growing with their great continuing education courses, like Fitness Nutrition, Mindful Eating & their Senior Fitness Specialist Program.
I'm currently enrolled in the highly regarded Precision Nutrition Coaching Certification. PN focuses on combining the science of nutrition and how to apply that to each individual. It's not about quick fixes and short term solutions, it's about looking at each client as an individual and their specific needs. This so resonates with me and how I view overall wellness. We are all different. What works for one does not and will not work for someone else. I'm a firm believer in what I call Lifestyle Wellness and I know PN is going to contribute greatly to my expanding knowledge and ability to help others.
My passion for wellness combined with my extensive corporate background provides a unique perspective in understanding the challenges everyone faces when trying to create greater health & vitality in one's life. My ultimate goal is to enlighten, educate and empower others to live their best lives. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than helping others on their journey because I firmly believe that good health and wellness is available to everyone.
